PR APPROVED! From abroad to LTVP to PR

Post by tortasalata » Thu, 29 May 2025 1:19 pm

Hello everyone, thought I'd start a new topic so it reaches more eyes. Especially if there is anyone else going through or thinking of going through a similar journey. I first posted on this board on 1 January 2024 asking for advice on LTVP chances. Here's the actual timeline:

early-Mar 2024
LTVP application
We took a little while to apply as I only arrived in Singapore in late January and then had to deal with one of my parents' passing. Also had to get documents translated and get the official stamps from the embassy.

end-Mar 2024
In-Principle Approval
I think this was when we were informed of the medical check-up. Luckily, we had already arranged for my husband to fly to Singapore so we made an appointment for when he finally arrived.

end-Apr 2024
LTVP Completion of Formalities and Collection
We received the news while vacationing on a remote-ish island, where the only times we had a signal was in the dining area, so that was a nice surprise!
Job search in Singapore commenced for my husband the day he received the LTVP. Got one relatively quickly, but realised that loads of companies didn't understand the PLOC part of LTVP. Also, funnily enough, a few companies offered to sponsor an EP for him so in hindsight maybe we were a bit too kiasi and could have started the job search earlier. Not sure though how that would have affected things, so just grateful that it all turned out well.

Feb 2025
LTVP Renewal
Received the email stating that the LTVP was expiring in 3 months as it was only for a year. On the application page, we could apply for both the LTVP renewal and the PR. At the same time, husband's company said "oh we could probably just put you on EP" but then after checking they realised that LTVP renewal is still better ahah! Husband still a bit kancheong so only applied for LTVP renewal as we read that it'll take longer if you apply for both and we didn't want that for a myriad of reasons.

end-Mar 2025
PR Application
LTVP was renewed for another 3 years I think. So we decided to apply for PR.

mid-May 2025
PR In-Principle Approval
Received the news while walking out of the gym and immediately called my husband, cheering! If you heard happy screaming in Telok Ayer, that was me, soz.

Today
PR APPROVED!
It said they would email within 10 working days and trust me, I was checking every hour. This morning whilst having breakfast, I did the usual absentminded check and there it was! Immediately paid the fee before even texting my husband. And then the confirmation arrived within an hour and a half, replete with virtual confetti and streamers around the blue IC image haha!

Thanks for reading all of this, hope it was useful. I've posted our profiles in my other thread but just a quick one since initially it seemed quite improbable, apparently considering our status. I'm a non-Chinese SC female, married for several years to my Caucasian husband. No kids. Married and lived abroad and only returned to Singapore last year. I really want to thank user @JWNYSG as his story and positivity kept us positive about our own journey!

Thank you all! A little update:

My husband collected the blue IC today. It seems like with this computerised process, there’s no need to go to the ICA. Or perhaps it’s because they already have all his details from the LTVP? We didn’t have to bring anything to ICA for that either. Our friends were telling us that they had to bring documents for the PR completion of formalities but for my husband, it was already sorted online. Much quicker!

We just booked an appointment at the post office and collected the IC. The options for ICA were also all unavailable so I suppose they’re trying to streamline the process.

On a side note, I’ve been getting ads for these ‘PR and citizenship’ agencies which I’m guessing are a whole lot of scammers?! The process is straightforward, I can’t imagine paying someone to do it.
