Managing Investment/Finances After Leaving Singapore

Post by raptor_from_vietnam » Thu, 26 Jun 2025 12:28 pm

Hi all,

I would like to ask if you know what would happen to brokerage/bank account after one leaves Singapore (without PR/citizenship). If your EP is cancelled, do you get to keep your local bank account and brokerage account (like Interactive Broker)?

Mr. @Wd40, may I ask if you know by any chance, since you have just left.

I would like to know as well - my EP was cancelled on Jan 1, 2025 and I left Singapore a few days after, but have not closed any of my accounts.

I still have a CDP, SRS, bank and brokerage accounts, plus 2 credit cards. All are still open and working… for now. So far I only changed the address on UOB back in Feb, which includes my SRS and credit card account - they haven’t raised any issues so far.

The UOB credit card was approved just months before my departure with a decent $50k credit line. I needed a card of some kind to keep UOB internet banking access for my SRS. This was one of the few cards with no AF perpetually (if connected to a Singtel bill, and I don’t mind keeping my cheapo $12/mo plan going).

This is interesting. It means they never bother to check your residency...

You are allowed to continue holding your bank accounts and credit cards.

Brokerage accounts are a bit of a grey area. But as long as you keep your SG phone number and an SG communication address you won't have a problem.

One of my colleagues who moved to NL had a Saxo brokerage account and he changed his mobile number to NL and that triggered something and he was asked by Saxo to close his SG Saxo account and open an EU Saxo account.

I also have and IBKR account and about 180K USD in it. I plan to keep my SG mobile number linked to it just to be sure I don't face any issues.
