Say yes to everything once (except the afore mentioned ever hopefuls). Subscribe to Timeout/Coconuts and other news groups that send out emails about events that might interest you. Join a professional group as well.

Outside of the forum. Google your profession in Singapore, most professions or allied professions have groups here that meet.
