OB/Gynea - specialist in tumor/myom/fibroid - recommendation

Post by spookie » Fri, 01 Sep 2006 10:23 am

Hi,

A friend of mine was just diagnosed with the above illness... and seeking a second opinion in Singapore...

Anyone can help her to recommend a good specialist in Singapore?

Thanks!

Hi Spookie,

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Myoma's are benign tumours on the smooth muscle of the uterus (also known as fibroids).

Most OB/GYN's in Singapore would have experience with these as they are quite common. Some women can have them and not even know it. I think it is good though that your friend wants to seek out a second opinion as every Dr will approach treatment of these differently.

You could suggest Dr. TC Chang at Thomson Medical Centre or Dr Paul Tseng at Thomson Medical Centre.

Its important to also let her know that surgery whilst an option isn't always necessary. Whilst I am not a DR nor have I personally experienced this, I have worked with women who have. Some have had fibroids that were only detected when they were pregnant and gone on to have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.

There is loads of info on the net for her to look at as well.

Wish her all the best and I hope she gets the answers she needs.

Hi Spookie, recently ,my mum had that problem and I brought her to see my Gynae at NUH,she is a specialist. What they did was to insert a wire with a camera attached, I think they call it hyperscopy ..something like that.

The gynae scraped out the fibroids there. She is 50+ ,reached menopause but was getting spotting cos of it.In other words, they did a D&C without anesthesia. And she is perfect now.Being a foreigner ,she paid $300.

You can see the Gynae at Ruby Clinic,NUH,Dr Annapoorna Venkat. That lady is really confident of what she's doing and makes you very comfortable.

Hey Spookie,

Just to let you know there is an article in this months "Motherhood" magazine about uterine fibroids.

Thought of your friend. She may get some information from it including a Dr's recommendation.
