Just relocated here from the UK and had a question related to the laws within SIN. It is my understanding that the government blocks sites like playboy.com and others but are you allowed to view sites that are not blocked that might be hosted outside this country?
I tried to google the answer but cant find anything definate. Anybody out there with some facts? It would be much appreciated?

Thanks for the article....interesting read. The last few lines of the conclusion still worry me....See excerpt:
The threats of extremely high fines76 or even criminal prosecution77 as a result of defamation lawsuits, imprisonment without judicial approval under the Internal Security Act,78 and police monitoring of computer use79 may deter users in Singapore from creating or obtaining access to potentially objectionable material.
All my luck I will be the guy they are watching and go to jail over something stupid. That seems like the monitor computers and jail or fines could result?

Standard procedure in Singapore -- kill the chicken to scare the monkeys, as the Chinese proverb says.

yup, when the orders come down from the top (to enforce a particular rule), then the nearest scapegoat gets it... a good example would be the hijacking of wireless broadband that happened recently.
It serves as an example to the general public...
