Try your local Community Centre. They normally run local food recipes and they not expensive. Good luck.

We are members of the PAssion Card and that gives us access to sporting events as well as cooking and baking classes. Google them... and as Zeenit mentioned, the community centres are all over the island and they are cheap as well as um... heartlandish.

Last year I went on a Malay cooking class on Puala Ubin. Included was a tour through the jungle looking at the different ingredients used and then making everything from scratch. I can highly recommend that if you like to know a bit more about the ingredients, next to actually learning how to make it.
