Spousal sponsor

Hi,

My husband's PR application has just been approved. I believe that his PR is approved under spousal sponsor as he is a work permit holder & not an S pass holder.
I read somewhere that he may have to attend NS if he is under spousal sponsor as opposed to the Skilled Workers Scheme. (He is 28 yrs old)Would appreciate any comments on that.
I have also written to ICA but I hope that I won't get another general answer from them. We also have to make an informed decision in 2 months' time whether to accept PR or not. Or how can he still be a PR without having to go for NS.
He is currently working & his income is a helpful source of financial help. We also hope to have a baby soon and is he were to attend NS, it would make the plans difficult o fulfill.

He will definitely have to register if he is sponsored by his wife. Whether he actually serves or not, I don't think anyone here will know that for sure. There have been a few of us here that have become PRs that way, but I'm pretty sure we were all in our mid 30s and after registering were told we didn't have to serve, so it will depend on what the cut-off age is, whether he will have to serve or not.

Yes, he will have to register with the central manpower base and technically is elgible for NS. However, in general practice he will be granted a waiver from actual duty. It's a gamble he is going to have to take as circumstances can change.

28 still falls within the 'legal' age to serve the army BUT he might be able to still get away with it as he might be considered 'too old' to serve actual duties.

do check with CMPB to clarify. this is a bit of a grey area.
