Irregular menstruation or simply something is wrong?

Post by mebeep » Wed, 21 Jul 2010 11:32 pm

What seems to be th problem for menses to stop?
Irregular exercises? Unhealthy diet and eating habits?

actually I did regular exercises, not lying , sports fr eg.
Eat normal as usual. Balance meals.
What seems to go wrong.
Been nearly a year late.
Not once or twice having stomach pains, sometimes find it extremely pain or sharp episodes of pain and even to find blood in bowl after that.
It got me worried.
For th first time in my life, was eating spaghetti in normal fine day w normal mood. Everything seems so fine and suddenly, felt like vomitting. Rushed to th toilet and vomitted out, tgt w blood.
I have bad experiences seeing blood.

Been and seen doctors , from neighbourhood clinics to SGH.
at first clinic docs said that is just normal gastric .
I took their words. But constantly pain , nah I start having doubts.
Went to SGH. Tested, ultrasound, blood test. Docs said," normal, nothing seems wrong".
Like seriously ? Wasted my $$ for that ?
I really hope nth is wrong. If you know what causes or whatever I'm having please do share and tell me.
Is there anyone having th same situation as me?
I wonder.

Just a guess: are you taking any diet pills or laxatives? If your BMI is very low (ie. below 18) your body will go into 'starvation mode' and your menses will stop.

Vomiting and/or passing blood in BM are never normal and just cause to see a doctor immediately. If your docs are saying there's nothing wrong, then either they're not getting the whole story from you or you need a second opinion.

Good luck with getting this sorted out.

Good advice from PP. See a different doctor. Blood out of any orifice is not "normal" (apart from the menses of course!).

I am walking in uncharted waters here but please bear with me as my wife once had this problems too

FYI general blood test cannot detect this problems. The blood test in question must test for gallbladder, liver, pancreatic, oesaphagus, intestines and fallopian areas. Check for fibroid, cyst or gall or kidney stone. X-ray on these areas may come up with something sinister
Hope this helps

@p,
bmi - normal.
Didn't take any diet pills or laxatives.
However, doc did gave me family planning pills. But I didn't took it. I believe I'm still too young for it. Afraid fr th worst side effects or whatsoever.

A few doctors noted me with various kind of treatments nd advices.
One said, to drink traditional herbal, another asked to go for traditional massage. They believe that these helps nd ensure th circulation of blood flows well. I did nd no changes.. But th massage was relaxing nd soothing tho^^

@miss,
I guess I should see another doc,

@mad,
yeah I agree. Blood test don't seems to help. I should try x-Ray soon then. Thanks for th link (:

thanks for th advices~ ^^

OP

Blood tests has to be specific on which area of test they need to check.Your Doctor has to indicate this. General Blood Test will not tell much.
X-ray or Gamma or Non Invasive like angioplasty will detect something amiss

How old are you? If you're in your first year or two of menses it's very normal for it to be irregular. Why would your doctor prescribe you birth control pills if you're not interested in taking them? Did s/he believe they would relieve your symptoms, or for the normal reasons? If it's the former, perhaps the doctor found you had a hormonal imbalance, which definitely would affect your menses. If it's the latter, then if you're too young I certainly hope you are using some sort of birth control...

There are many types of hormonal b/c available, including injections and patches and dozens of types of pills. Not all of them have the same side effects, so it often takes trying a couple to find what you like. None of the side effects are that scary--acne, weight loss/gain, breast enlargement, headaches--it's all short term and will change if you change medication. I would strongly advise you to have a chat with your doctor about your worries and different options rather than just not taking the pills s/he prescribes. If your doctor's not willing to talk, find a new one.

And if they dismiss the blood in the stool or vomit as nothing serious I would find a new doctor.

Also, you said you had an ultrasound and they found nothing abnormal. Was it a pelvic series (on your reproductive organs) or abdominal?

I like disclaimers: it's not advisable for doctors to comment on management unless he/she has seen the patient.

However, based on your complaints, these are some explanations.

You actually have two issues regarding bleeding, and it would be better to separate them.

1) vaginal bleeding/ irregular menses: how old are you? hormones usually cause abnormalities in menstrual flow, women who get pregnant and experience 'missed menses' are affected by the same hormonal changes in the body, that is why your doctor gave you OCPs (oral contraceptive pills). technically you are never too young for these medications, because they contain the same hormones found in your body, one of the most common OCPs--progesterone pills, can actually resolve a great number of abnormal menstrual bleeding--so it might help if you gave it a shot. it would be good to know that some OCPs, especially those containing estrogen can help improve complexion :)

see a qualified OB-GYNE, some tests that may help are the following:
1) annual pap smear
2) diagnostic curettage which is an outpatient/day procedure
3) pelvic ultrasonography
4) hormone level determination

1) bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract (blood in stool and through the other end): it may be prudent for you to monitor other accompanying symptoms of abdominal discomfort such as pain, indigestion, heart burn, reflux or the sour tasting fluid that comes up your mouth after a meal, excessive burping, difficulty taking bowels. the diet in singapore is a big factor for some people to develop gastritis or hemorrhoids, and other abdominal complaints due to the large amount of spices in the food. hyperacidity may cause all these symptoms and if they worsen, ulceration and bleeding. diet modification is one of the most effective but effort-driven forms of management for dyspepsia, it includes not skipping meals, not overeating, avoiding acidic food and drinks like tea, coffee (yes coffee), juices, even milk, everything in moderation is a good line to follow. of course there are the medications that can greatly improve and cure the problem, but effectiveness of therapy relies greatly on diet modification.

see a qualified gastroenterologist, some tests that may help are the following:
1) digital rectal examination
2) endoscopy
3) tests for bacteria that cause a great number of gastritis cases (h. pylori)
4) stool exam

OK. be well.
Well, best be making something then.
