Keep an eye on the small adds in the local birdcage liner. You will often see adverts for factory warehouse clearance sales. You can pick up some good buys (in fact, down right cheap but you have to get there early) from name brand manufacturers getting rid of last years models. Don't happen every day or even every weekend but when it does happen the crowds are enormous.

The sports shops in malls sometimes have promotions when you use certain credit cards which give significant discounts; you just need to keep an eye out.
