Citizenship Changes Before or After Divorce

Me and my wife, married for 18 years, we are currently separated for 1 1/2 years with a Deed of Separation. We have a son, now is 12 years old.

She is a PR from Malaysia and been working with a same company for the pass 18 years. Her current salary is at least S$3,500 per month.

Now I understand that she is in a process of applying or having an intention to apply for a Singapore Citizenship before we go through our divorce proceeding.


If she is applying for an Singapore Citizenship, her current status is still married;

1. Would she need my sponsor, compulsory, for application?

2. Or she can get her sponsorship directly from her company?


If we have gone through our divorce, would it be easy for her to;

1. Get her sponsorship from her company?

2. Or she can apply her application with our son?


Please advise, cause I am asking for her to go ahead with our divorce but she insisted that she want to get her citizenship first.

I have consulted my lawyer that we can go ahead with our divorce if she agreed. Now her reasons to hold back is she want to apply for a Singapore Citizenship.

My questions are whether she can apply for a citizenship without my sponsorship or she can apply directly through her company? and so for...

And if after divorce, would she be able to apply for Singapore citizenship through her employer sponsorship? Or she is not eligible to apply after divorce?

Well, it doesn't say the SC spouse has to be the sponsor does it, so what do you figure that implies?

And if after divorce, would she be able to apply for Singapore citizenship through her employer sponsorship? Or she is not eligible to apply after divorce?
Read the linked website, the information is there. If you can't understand it I'd suggest you pay a lawyer to explain it for you.

Furthermore it would appear that her marital status is only relevant at the point in time of her application. So if she is concerned that filing for divorce might conflict with any citizenship application (and per your original post you do not seem to know whether she has made her application or not) then tell her you're going to file for divorce in 30 days time and she'd better hurry up with her application.

Put another way, have you considered she has raised this issue and made it your problem, to stop you filing for divorce?
