Report bad drivers.....

Singapore for me has driving standards so low and selfish they are beyond belief at times....

I have tried a new tact;
A majority of poor drivers are Taxi drivers and Truck drivers....those truck drivers with loads of foreign workers huddled together in the back....
Many of these have their company name on and taxis are easy to identify...take the last 4 digits and the taxi company....easy peasy...
THEN REPORT THEM TO THEIR EMPLOYERS!
I stated the company name was on the truck.....the full facts....he was driving at 100KMH with a truck load of employees....showing no respect for laws of Singapore and Human life......
Reply came.....he will be disciplined.....

Get after it and start to report them all.....Singapore needs to act now??

The new sign campaign on the motorway signs says 'think ahead, signal early'......but fails to add.....'STOP DRIVING LIKE A DICK!!!'

Now THAT sounds like an exercise in futility. Most of those drivers are the bosses or the boss's son. The response was to get you off the phone, nothing more.

Riding a BMW bike gives me a great view in the cars...especially when the drivers are on the phone.....new ploy pointing at them...to see them swiftly drop the phone seems to work a treat

As far as futile is concerned...if one boss gives one person a bollocking and it saves one life....I will not see it as futile??
Better to act than think 'I should have done more'??

The sad truth is that it would be nothing but a quixotry at its pure. The bosses will give no slightest s**t about it as even institutions like LTA act in similar cases like they would like to do everything to discourage you from reporting.

Either take it or leave it, its not your job to change the world, slow down or you'll get a heart attack.

Of course, I'm inclined to agree with you, but then when I think about it I can't put my finger on any country I've ever driven in that has fabulous, courteous and non-dick-like driving.

Sorry mate...no heart attacks for this boy.....just citizen of the universe stuff when I see drivers near the yards with Foreign workers getting thrown about in the back of the truck.....cannot standy by and wait for the next accident

As far as driving goes....the UK is far ahead of here...my wife being a Singaporean is in awe when we travel there and she gets people flashing her up to let her in, let her overtake, let her filter in and slowing down to let you carry out your manouvre etc and the general polite driving standards.....yes there are some dicks.....but not on such a grand scale as here

But then you should have already noticed that what you described above is more like a social widely accepted agreement. Even police follows it. Enough to learn the patterns and you are safer than in many Western countries. On top of it I bet when it comes to the real dangerous dicks on the roads there is much less of them here. Riding a motorbike for a numbers of years already I can still count them with the fingers of one hand.

Whilst i havent driven in the UK, i find driving in perth alot more of a headache than singapore. if you are not confident to drive, maybe you should just stick to taxis/bus/trains as it will be safer for all involved

"general polite driving standards". I guess we must drive in different parts of the UK then. I used to think that, but in the last few years I disagree, its equally nightmarish. Just a different kind of dick-like behaviour you are used to and accept.

That's funny, the root cause of my main complaints with driving in Singapore would be the number of drivers that are NOT competent to drive in the roads! Uncles in their little Japanese saloon cars merging onto CTE at 50km/h, moving a lane or there to the right, and staying there. Or people sitting at a left turn and waiting, letting gaps large enough for five or six busses to make the turn go by, while the queue waiting to turn grows 300m+. Of course, that could just be the driver too busy to look up from WhatsApp on their iPhone/SIII.

I've yet to see someone merge on the CTE @ 50kmh, or hogging the right lane, a simple flash of my HID will be bright enough to get the message across, or even the left turn issue that you talk about. if anything its the inconsiderate pedestrians that think that the zebra crossing is a gods gift and that they can walk at a snails pace without a care in the world.

considering i do a average of 250km/day in sg and jb. either you have all the luck in meeting shit drivers, or we have another case of a whinging expat.

I've yet to see someone merge on the CTE @ 50kmh, (This happens because they have to slow down because of the jerks who will close up the gaps in the left lane to prevent them merging safely which is so paramount here you would think that it is taught by the driving instructors along with the rest of the bad habits like tailgating). or hogging the right lane, a simple flash of my HID will be bright enough to get the message across, (actually, it's probably your inconsiderate AND dangerous tailgating with the HIDs that does it) or even the left turn issue that you talk about. if anything its the inconsiderate pedestrians that think that the zebra crossing is a gods gift and that they can walk at a snails pace without a care in the world.

Sadly, that is their right. But the flip side is the local drivers who don't bother to stop at green man lights (running them AFTER they turn red - Guess they think pedestrians are supposed to move as fast as cars)

Actually, you doing an average of 250km/day says you are a taxi driver. If that's the case, I'd keep my mouth shut as they are among the worst and most inconsiderate drivers in Singapore. I'll just use your emoticon -->
