I do not know about a gene for learning languages ( I myself can speak 5, mostly latin languages ), but certainly some people learn faster than others. Some studies indicates that intelligences are specific so we never say 'x is more intelligent than y', but 'x is more intelligent than y in that particular subject'.

And I was told that's not really what the singaporeans think about 'smart kids', intelligence here in general means 'good grades' and not 'good solutions' or 'good thinking'. I understand also that lots of people also question about the local 'inteligence' indicators. I am here just repeating what friends told me, I do not know much about Spore educational system... but that's subject for another topic than football
