I wonder if he is aware that the local military is only designed to maintain a 72 hours standoff capability until it's Western Allies (NZ, Aus & US) arrive to bail them out. What does he think a maximum call-up of 350,000 men of which 80% are unfit and overweight are going to do against one of their neighbours with this kind of manpower.

You really are a deluded soul, even though your patriotism is commendable. Sure 90% are military or police trained. You are all also trained in English and courtesy, but look how effective that as been as well.

Just because a young male Singaporean survives BMT without his maid or mommy to carry his pack for him (seems lots don't), doesn't necessarily make him a soldier or for that matter, a man, who can or will defend his country. What terrorist attack did you "Handle". You can't mean the Yishun filming affair surely. You can't mean the roundup of the JI people either (I hope you're not that dumb). hello there, singlish is not a recognised language, its because in the 80s and 90s local tv shows like phua chu kang promoted this sh*t and ppl thought its cool to follow.

No Sh*t sherlock! You could actually try to get your facts straight. Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd ran from 1996 to 2006 ( Does that mean Gen Y is only 3 years old? ) And is currently on again as Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd with the same level of speech. Please don't pray, pray!

As I said, you don't know how to speak English nor do you know how to write it either. As for the new gen Y not speaking it? BS! I have 25 y.o. daughter & a 20 y.o. son, and while both speak proper Standard English, they also speak Singlish as well when they have to. That's whenever they are talking to other Singaporeans. It's the only way they can be understood! They went through the local school system from Kindergarten through tertiary schools (one currently in NAFA the older one finished) and the level of the teachers here ensure that they only learn Singlish as that's what most of the teachers speak as well! The only reason they speak proper English is both their Mother and Father speak proper English as well. It's not a fad, it's the government's problem and the PM and SM (when he was PM) have both stated it as such.

Even though I have not served in military but I know what is military life is like as my parents and grand parents served/serving in military.
It is here I see people cry/crib about doing NS were they should happily serve NS. It is that you are serving out of compulsion, if not no one would turn up for the same. Is that because they do not feel a sense of belonging here ?
Where is the discipline even after serving NS ?

You are still lacking maturity by comparing an incident like mumbai '2008 to a plane hijack..if the plane was mid air then not even the elite forces of this world could have saved it.
