Alati derives its name from the Greek word for salt and the Amoy Street resto serves up modern Greek cuisine made with ingredients imported from Greece. The seafood here is caught wild from the Aegean Sea and shipped to the restaurant three times a week.MUST TRIES:Beyond the usual Greek salads, taramosalata dips and Tzatzikis, head chef Ioannis Stefanopouloshas been introducing more cutting-edge dishes to give diners a taste of what modern Greek food is all about.Take for example the Anchovy Fritters — fresh anchovies mixed with potato, zucchini, spring onion and dill. It has a wonderfully crunchy batter and a filling which has a nice strong flavour of dill supporting the dominant anchovy fish flavour. It’s served with stewed tomato cumin dip, which adds a nice tangy tomato freshness into the mix.A big highlight is the Trikalinos Bottarga, which is made with grey mullet roe and is considered to be one of the best bottargas in the world.Very close attention is paid to the salting and drying processes, resulting in a less salty bottarga that has a higher moisture content and a fuller fish roe flavour. It is served with toasted pita bread, diced onions, chopped eggs and capers, and the condiments add just that little bit of creaminess (eggs), fresh onion flavour or complex saltiness (capers) to the already wonderful roe.
