Blink, and you might miss Chong Wen Ge Café. The cafe is devoid of a signboard and hidden within the courtyard of Thian Hock Keng Temple.

Once inside, you'll find that the charming space is decked out in ethnic vintage tiles as a nod to the local Peranakan heritage.

Soft instrumental music fills the air as you enjoy Nyonya dishes such as the fragrant curry chicken ($9.80) and the signature Satay Bee Hoon ($8.80) served with cuttlefish, clams, kangkong, pig liver, taupok and thick peanut sauce. Prices are affordable and portions are very generous.
